General Purpose Rating Course to become a seaman
The above program is approved by Director General of Shipping, Govt. of India. The design of the course is as per the guidelines laid down by the directorate, in the 6 Months training at Academy, approved by Director General of Shipping, Govt. of India. The candidate is familiarized with various aspects in workshop comprising of Carpentry, Plumbing, Machine Ship, Electrical Shop and Hot Work. He is also required to complete mandatory STCW courses.
On successful completion of the 6 months Pre-Sea Training, he undergoes the sea phase training of 12 months.
Eligibility:
Minimum 10th pass with at least 40% marks in Aggregate and at least 40% marks in English. He should be fluent in written and spoken English.
Age:
Not less than 17½ & Not exceeding 25 years as on the date of commencement of training.
Medical Fitness:
Medically fit with eyesight 6/6, without external aids. No colour blindness.
Selection Procedure:
NMS undertakes an Aptitude test followed by a CET of D. G. Shipping. The final selection will only take place after medical check – up through our panel Doctor, approved by D. G. Shipping Govt. of India.

BOSUN (SALARY U.S. $ 1000-1200)
AFTER TOTAL SEA TIME OF 24 MONTHS APPEAR NCV 2nd MATE (DECK)/APPEAR FOR CLASS 4 NCV EXAMS (ENGINE)
ON OBTAINING NCV 2ND MATE YOU CAN SAIL AS 2nd MATE IN NEAR COASTAL VOYAGE/ON OBTAINING CLASS 4 NCV CERTIFICATE CAN SAIL AS 4th ENGINEER IN NR. COASTAL VOYAGE (SALARY U.S. % 3500- 5500)
CAN RAISE UP TO THE RANK OF MASTER MARINER/CHIEF ENGINEER (SALARY U.S. $ 8500-12000)
